About Sights of the City
A personal collection of destination guides built from years of travel, photography and firsthand experiences across dozens of countries.
Stefan — founder, Sights of the City
Hi, I'm Stefan, and welcome to Sights of the City.
Travel has been a lifelong passion. I grew up in Germany and later made California my home, and over the years that curiosity has taken me to dozens of countries, countless cities, and some incredible places in between. Along the way, I collected tens of thousands of photographs — but more importantly, I collected memories, stories, and a deeper appreciation for the people and places that make every destination unique.
Many of the destinations featured here aren't places I've visited just once. They're places I've returned to repeatedly over many years. Munich has been part of my life since childhood. Other destinations have become annual traditions, while some have surprised me enough that I simply had to go back.
Photography has become an important part of how I experience destinations. It slows me down, encourages me to look more carefully, and often leads me to corners of a city I might otherwise have walked straight past.
Sights of the City grew out of a simple idea: to create a home for those experiences and share them with others.

Why I Created Sights of the City
Why I Created Sights of the City
These destination guides aren't meant to be exhaustive travel encyclopedias or lists of every attraction. Instead, they're a reflection of the places I've experienced, combining practical travel advice with personal memories, favorite discoveries, local foods, scenic walks, museums, parks, neighborhoods, and ideas for exploring beyond the obvious.
One of my greatest hopes is that these guides inspire people to travel not just as tourists, but as curious and respectful travelers. Every destination is someone's home, shaped by its own history, traditions, culture, and way of life. I believe that approaching a place with an open mind and genuine curiosity leads to richer experiences and a greater appreciation for the people who live there.
Travel has an incredible ability to replace uncertainty with understanding. The more we experience different cultures, try unfamiliar foods, learn local customs, and have conversations with people whose lives may be very different from our own, the more we realize how much we share. Those experiences often become the memories that stay with us long after we've returned home.
I also believe that travel should leave a positive impact. Whether it's choosing a locally owned café, shopping at a neighborhood market, visiting an independent museum, or simply treating the places we visit with care and respect, even small choices can help support the communities that welcome us.
